Workshop Rules & Standards

Introduction

Dear Member of Team,

First of all, thank you for your hard work, commitment and dedication.

As Alterations Couture continues to grow, it is important that we all follow the same high standards. These rules are designed to improve quality, organisation, communication, teamwork and customer service while creating a professional and positive working environment.

Employees who consistently demonstrate professionalism, reliability, quality workmanship and commitment may receive a monthly performance bonus based on individual and overall workshop performance.

1. Working Hours

Monday – Friday
8:00 am – 7:00 pm

Saturday
9:00 am – 5:00 pm

Sunday
Closed (unless agreed in advance).

Breaks

  • Morning – 15 minutes
  • Lunch – 30 minutes
  • Afternoon – 15 minutes

2. Arriving at Work

  • Arrive 10 minutes before the official starting time.
  • Monday–Friday: 7:50 am
  • Saturday: 8:50 am
  • Be ready to start work on time.

3. Opening the Workshop

Before starting work:

  • Clean the workshop.
  • Clean all workstations.
  • Prepare sewing tables.
  • Organise scissors, threads, bobbins, tape measures and tools.
  • Prepare pincushions.
  • Water the plants if needed.
  • Make sure everything is clean and ready before customers arrive.

4. Quality Standards

  • Quality always comes before speed.
  • Read all instructions carefully before starting.
  • Never start work if you are unsure.
  • Always ask if you have any doubts.
  • Never cut any fabric unless you are completely sure.
  • Leave enough seam allowance whenever possible for future alterations.
  • Check every garment before, during and after the alteration.
  • Report any problem immediately.

5. Sewing Machines & Needles

  • Always use the correct needle for the fabric.
  • Change the needle when changing fabric type or thickness.
  • Check the machine settings before starting.
  • Report any machine problems immediately.

6. Handling Customers’ Garments

  • Treat every garment with care and respect.
  • Never place garments on the floor.
  • Keep food and drinks away from customers’ garments.
  • Keep your workstation clean.

White & Delicate Garments

  • Wash your hands before handling white or delicate garments.
  • Dry your hands completely before touching the garment.
  • Never work with wet hands.
  • Keep the worktable perfectly clean.
  • When you are not working on a white or delicate garment, always keep it inside a clean plastic bag to protect it from dust, dirt, pins and accidental damage.

7. Personal Hygiene

  • Arrive clean and well-groomed.
  • Wear clean clothes every day.
  • Maintain good personal hygiene.
  • Wash your hands regularly.
  • Avoid strong perfumes or aftershaves.
  • Use only light fragrances so that customers’ garments do not absorb strong smells.

8. Mobile Phones

  • Phones must stay on silent during working hours.
  • No personal phone calls while working.
  • Emergency calls should be taken outside the work area or in the kitchen.
  • Never talk on the phone while working on a customer’s garment.

9. Workshop Organisation

  • Keep your workstation tidy.
  • Return all tools after use.
  • Keep threads, bobbins and accessories organised.
  • Report damaged equipment immediately.

10. End of the Working Day

15 minutes before finishing time:

  • Stop alteration work.
  • Clean the workshop.
  • Organise your workstation.
  • Return all tools to their proper place.
  • Prepare pincushions for the next day.
  • Remove all fabric waste.
  • Leave the workshop clean and ready for the following day.

11. Daily Online Report

Before leaving every day, complete the online report.

Include:

  • Order Number.
  • Work completed.
  • Status (Completed / In Progress).
  • Any comments or problems.

12. Walk-in Customers

Customers without an appointment must always be welcomed professionally.

  • Greet them politely.
  • Offer them a seat.
  • Offer coffee or water.
  • Listen carefully to their request.
  • Book the appointment immediately using the booking system.
  • Update the booking with any important notes.
  • Confirm the appointment before the customer leaves.

13. Workshop Supervisor

Dilip is responsible for:

  • Organising the daily workload.
  • Allocating work.
  • Monitoring quality.
  • Supporting the team.
  • Reporting any important issues to management.

Each employee remains responsible for the quality of their own work.


14. Mistakes

  • Report mistakes immediately.
  • Never hide a mistake.
  • Stop working if you are unsure.
  • Ask for help straight away.
  • Honest communication helps us solve problems quickly.

15. Health & Teamwork

  • Tell management immediately if you are feeling physically or mentally unwell.
  • Do not continue working if your health may affect quality or safety.
  • Support and look after one another.
  • Work as one team with respect and kindness.

16. Professional Behaviour

  • Be respectful to customers and colleagues.
  • Avoid unnecessary conversations while working.
  • Follow daily priorities.
  • Report any important customer request or workshop issue immediately.
  • Keep a positive and professional attitude.
